The Dedan Kimathi University of Technology Alumni Association (DeKUTAA) invited its members to vote for three (3) nominees to be forwarded through the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Education to the President of the Republic of Kenya for consideration to be appointed to the position of the Chancellor. The voting exercise was done digitally through a web portal. This was a great success that the alumni take part in an important role. The 5 candidates were:

- Prof Ezra Maritim
- Prof Edward Kairu
- Prof Shelemiah Keya
- Prof Vasay Mwaja
